Why this matters

Product development in Europe, and especially in the automotive industry, faces enormous pressure. Shorter innovation cycles, increasing regulatory demands, and global competition are forcing companies to rethink how they build complex systems. Traditional engineering approaches struggle to keep pace with these dynamics.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) offers a structured answer, and Michael has long been an advocate of it. Yet in practice, MBSE often proves too slow, too rigid, and too complicated for many organizations. The promise is clear, but the reality shows that a lighter, more agile approach is needed to deliver real value.

Spreading the word on Product Velocity

Michael recognized agile product development as the way to close this gap. With his Product Velocity initiative, he is spreading the word about faster, more adaptable development practices that help organizations keep up with today’s challenges. His mission is to make proven methods accessible, actionable, and relevant for industries under pressure.

Staying true to his commitment to open projects and knowledge sharing, Michael combines different activities: the upcoming book Product Velocity, the free webinar on interface management with SysML, and public engagements like his keynote at Modern RE 2025. Each of these efforts reflects the same goal: empowering teams to accelerate development without losing quality.
